CONFORMATION FLEECE HISTORY HUSBANDRY MEAT & OTHER

Please keep in mind that these links deal with feeding main stream type sheep.  Shetlands are smaller and can manage with less.  Many are well kept on a forage (grass and hay) based system with very few grains or concentrates.  Guidelines for feeding Shetlands will be covered in other pages in the Feed Section.  Also, remember that stocking rates for pastures vary greatly, depending on where in North America you may be.  Consulting with a local agricultural representative is a good plan.  Many colleges and universities have sheep programs, in addition to the ones listed here.  They may be able to provide specific information on feeding sheep in your area.
